Discover wisdom through film making
UDUKKAI is a Creative Learning program of ‘Discovering wisdom through filmmaking’, conceptualized and created by Usha Rajeswari, and conducted in schools in Chennai, to help children understand and discover for themselves the ancient, global wisdom of India and the world through a process of research, self-discovery, concretization and presentation of ideas through the exciting medium of filmmaking.
“UDUKKAI” is the drum of Lord Shiva, the Ultimate God. “Udukkai” is a clarion call to our youngsters to awaken themselves to, understand and participate of, the holistic intelligence and rich wisdom that India has been built with over thousands of generations.
Subash Kak,a professor of electrical and computer engineering at the Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, and a renowned authority on ancient Indian science and technology, has said in an interview, “…There is the puzzle that our ancestors made astonishing advances in certain fields - as in grammar or in consciousness studies - where we moderns are yet to catch up! …
One of the greatest scientists of the 20th century, Erwin Schrodinger, was directly inspired by Vedanta in his creation of quantum mechanics, a theory at the basis of all our advances in chemistry, biochemistry, electronics, and computers! Is there more in our ancient science that is yet relevant? What happened to our traditional knowledge base?
Udukkai has been formed to help children create films that open young minds to the amazing knowledge that is encoded in our culture, in fact, in many ancient cultures, to explore the brilliance and greatness of our ancestors who, without any of our current ‘technological aids’, had a deep understanding of how the world and the universe works. We believe that this would enhance depth of character and help them develop an integrated worldview.
